Our medical dermatology services include:
Acne is one of the most common conditions treated in our clinic. Acne affects both males and females. Although traditionally thought to be a problem of adolescents, an increasing number of adults are affected by acne as well. Acne can be very embarrassing and uncomfortable, and while the condition itself often improves with time, permanent scarring often follows. We can customize a practical regimen to help you achieve control over your acne. We offer many options for treating both adult and adolescent acne and are happy to discuss the roles of hormones, diet, and stress on acne.
Moles and birthmarks can range in color. If you are concerned about the appearance of a mole or would like a mole removed for aesthetic reasons, we will do a thorough evaluation and offer responsible management options.
Rosacea is an inflammatory condition that can cause blushing or flushing of the skin. Effects of rosacea can range from blood vessels and redness to papules and pustules around the nose and cheeks. Southern Dermatology of New Orleans provides treatment options to get rosacea under control. Sun protection, as well as customized prescription drug management, can offer significant improvement in the appearance and symptoms of this chronic condition.
Psoriasis affects almost 5% of the US population and is usually characterized by thick, red plaques with silvery scales. Psoriasis can even be associated with a severe, debilitating form of arthritis. While psoriasis can cause significant physical and social discomfort, recent studies also show that uncontrolled psoriasis may be a significant risk factor for heart disease and stroke. At Southern Dermatology of New Orleans we will perform a thorough evaluation of this condition and can provide effective customized treatment.
Statistics state that one in five Americans develop skin cancer in their lifetime with the most common types being basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. Skin cancer accounts for almost 80% of cancers in the United States, and early detection permits the best treatment. Most skin cancers can be treated by surgical destruction or removal in an outpatient setting. Dr. Wiltz is comfortable and skilled in skin cancer surgery as is happy to provide this service to her patients. In addition, Dr. Wiltz provides very thorough skin cancer screening services and encourages patients to wear sunscreen every day and to avoid tanning beds or deliberately tanning for long periods of time. If a special procedure such as Mohs surgery or radiation is appropriate, we will refer you to a trusted physician for further care.
